Escalation : the card game

It's the classic suburban conflict of unreturned tools, loud neighbors, and prize-winning garden gnomes from Reiner Knizia. This simple gateway card game has players starting with low-value cards then escalating the values until someone goes too far and penalizes their neighbor with the stack of cards. When the deck runs out and a player's hand is empty, the player with the least cards in his stack wins.

Players take turns playing sets "of-a-kind" of cards onto the table, announcing the total of the cards. Play continues in turn order, with each total having to be higher than the previous player. Wild cards, and neighbourhood watch cards spice up the action. If you can't "escalate" your total, you have to take all cards played this round. At the each round, each card taken is a penalty point, which you're trying to avoid. Fast, card flinging game, with lots of laughs. Still, Trendy does this sort of thing so much better, and if you can't build sets of cards then you're screwed.
